Trek Overview

Few journeys capture the full spirit of the Himalaya like the Annapurna Circuit Trek (Shorter Version) — a trail that circles the colossal Annapurna Massif through every climate zone and culture Nepal has to offer. From lush subtropical valleys to windswept high passes, from Buddhist prayer wheels to Hindu shrines, this route is a living tapestry of landscapes, people, and pilgrimage.

Opened to trekkers in the late 1970s, the Annapurna Circuit quickly earned its reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful and diverse trekking routes. Over two weeks, the trail leads you from the fertile Marsyangdi Valley to the arid plateaus beyond the Himalaya, culminating in the exhilarating crossing of Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) — a moment every trekker remembers for life.

At RM Treks, we’ve guided countless travelers around Annapurna since our founding. We know every shortcut, viewpoint, and teahouse — not just from maps, but from experience born of living and working in these valleys. Our Classic Annapurna Circuit Trek combines that local insight with responsible travel values and carefully designed acclimatization days, ensuring both safety and immersion.

Whether you’re drawn by photography, culture, or the challenge of high-altitude trekking, this route delivers the full Himalayan experience — authentic, transformative, and deeply rewarding.

Route & General Outline

Kathmandu → Besishahar → Manang → Thorong La Pass → Muktinath → Jomsom → Tatopani → Pokhara → Kathmandu

Since this version is a compressed version of the classic circuit, Jeep transfers are used between BesishaharDharapani and JomsomTatopani to save time without missing key highlights.

You’ll begin with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besishahar, following the Marsyangdi River upstream through terraced villages and forested hills. Gradually, the trail climbs toward the alpine valley of Manang, home to Tibetan-Buddhist culture and stunning side trails.
After acclimatizing, you’ll tackle the dramatic ascent to Thorong La Pass, the crown of the trek. On the far side lies Muktinath, where Himalayan Buddhism meets Hindu devotion. From here, you descend through the Kali Gandaki Valley to Tatopani’s hot springs, ending with a peaceful return to Pokhara, and onward to Kathmandu.

Cultural Insights

The Annapurna Circuit is not only a geological journey — it’s a living museum of cultures.

You’ll meet the Gurung people in the lower valleys, famed for their hospitality and bravery; the Manangi community in the trans-Himalayan north, with their Tibetan roots, monasteries, and trade history; and the Thakali in the Mustang region, known for their distinct architecture, cuisine, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Walking through Manang’s flat-roofed homes, spinning prayer wheels in Braga Monastery, or wandering Marpha’s whitewashed alleys, you’ll feel centuries of tradition come alive. RM Treks’ guides are part of these communities — they interpret local life not as outsiders, but as hosts.
