Trek Nepal’s Everest Region with RM Treks; expert-led journeys to Base Camp, Gokyo Lakes & Tengboche. Culture, safety, sustainability & local expertise.

Beneath the shadow of the world’s highest peak lies a world where adventure and spirit intertwine. Here, ancient monasteries cling to cliff sides, colorful prayer flags ripple against glacial winds, and the trails pulse with the rhythm of life in the high Himalaya.
Known locally as Khumbu, the Everest Region of Nepal is a place where every step tells a story — of mountain legends, spiritual devotion, and resilience in one of Earth’s most breathtaking landscapes.
For over four decades, RM Treks has guided travelers through this remarkable region. We don’t just organize treks — we help you discover the Himalayas through the eyes of those who call it home, ensuring your journey is safe, enriching, and deeply authentic.
Few places on earth combine such geographic drama, cultural depth, and mountaineering heritage. The Everest Region is home to four of the world’s highest peaks — Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu — each towering above a labyrinth of glacial valleys, suspension bridges, and centuries-old trails.
Trekkers come not only to stand beneath Everest but to immerse themselves in a living Himalayan culture. The air here hums with the sound of yak bells, the laughter of children, and the gentle murmur of prayer wheels turning in the wind.
Highlights such as Everest Base Camp, the turquoise Gokyo Lakes, and the sacred Tengboche Monastery form the spine of the Khumbu’s legendary routes. Easily accessed by a short flight to Lukla, the region offers both world-famous treks and hidden side valleys for those who seek quieter trails.
The Everest Region offers a network of trails suitable for a range of ambitions — from iconic classics to wild, lesser-known paths. RM Treks’ experienced guides have walked every inch of these mountains and handcraft each route to match your pace and passion.
The definitive Himalayan journey. Beginning in Lukla, this Classic EBC Trek follows the Dudh Koshi valley to Namche Bazaar, climbs to Tengboche and Dingboche, and culminates at Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Kala Patthar (5,545 m). It’s a powerful blend of challenge, culture, and achievement — a pilgrimage to the foot of the world’s highest mountain.
The historic approach taken by early expeditions before the Lukla airstrip existed. Starting from the lush lowlands near Jiri, trekkers ascend gradually through traditional villages, experiencing the full cultural and geographic transition from hills to high Himalaya.
A scenic alternative to the Base Camp route. The trail climbs through Dole and Machhermo to reach the crystalline Gokyo Lakes — turquoise jewels reflecting Everest and Cho Oyu. A dawn hike up Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) offers one of the most panoramic views in Nepal.
For seasoned trekkers, the Three Passes circuit — crossing Kongma La (5,535 m), Cho La (5,420 m), and Renjo La (5,360 m) — is the ultimate Everest adventure. It links the Base Camp and Gokyo valleys in a grand traverse of glacial landscapes and hidden Sherpa hamlets.
South of Lukla lies the Solu region — quieter, greener, and rich in Buddhist monasteries. The Pikey Peak Trek rewards with sunrise views of Everest from a lower, more accessible ridge, while Dudh Kunda (Milky Lake) adds a touch of sacred serenity.
RM Treks also operates expeditions via Arun Valley, Rolwaling, or Tashi Lapcha Pass, blending solitude, wildlife, and cultural immersion far from the main trail.
Local Insight: In the Everest Region, distance is measured not in kilometers but in tea stops, smiles, and stories. Take your time — the journey is the destination.
The Sherpa people are the soul of Khumbu. Renowned for their mountaineering skill, they are equally known for their warmth and deep Buddhist faith. Monasteries such as Tengboche, Pangboche, and Thame preserve ancient rituals; mani walls and stupas line every trail, and festivals like Mani Rimdu fill the valleys with music and masked dance.
Life here revolves around harmony — with the mountains, with faith, and with community. RM Treks’ long partnership with local families and lodges ensures that your journey supports and respects this living culture.
The Everest Region lies within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its ecological diversity. Lower valleys bloom with rhododendron, magnolia, and pine; higher slopes shelter alpine shrubs, mosses, and lichens.
Wildlife includes the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, and vibrant birdlife like the Danphe pheasant — Nepal’s national bird.
RM Treks practices Leave No Trace principles: minimizing waste, banning single-use plastics, and employing trained porters who respect park guidelines. Your trek directly contributes to local conservation through permit fees and community support.
RM Treks plans departures in the prime seasons but can customize treks year-round based on weather expertise and your preferences.
Most treks begin with the short but spectacular Lukla flight from Kathmandu. During peak months, flights may operate via Ramechhap Airport (4 hrs by road from the capital). For a more gradual ascent and fewer crowds, overland options via Jiri or Salleri are also available.
Trekkers require:
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit
RM Treks arranges all paperwork on your behalf.
The Khumbu is renowned for its teahouse network — family-run lodges offering hearty meals, warm hospitality, and comfortable beds.
