It seems that everyone you meet in Kathmandu is a trekking guide, once you mention that you’re going trekking - and it’s kind of hard to know who to trust and what’s a fair price. Once we spoke with Rainbow Mountain Treks we felt very safe. The price was better than any random service we had been offered, and they provided us with a lovely guide, who adjusted the trek to our wants. Right before we were supposed to go, I got admitted to the hospital with food poisoning, so we had to push the trek a couple of days. Rainbow Mountain Trek was very understanding and let us rebook our dates for when we got out of the hospital. Thank you so much to everyone who helped us at Rainbow Mountain Trek, and a special thanks to our guide Uttar!

Bhola and Bigyan are extremely helpful, welcoming and kind. They always offered refreshments when visiting the office and answered all questions with lots of knowledge. They set up our trek on the Manaslu Circuit with Baikuntha as our guide. The trek was amazing we felt completely safe and sure with Baikuntha’s knowledge and decision making. I will recommend Rainbow Mountain to anyone and everyone that I can for organizing trekking in Nepal!

I stopped into Rainbow Mountain Treks on my way back to my hostel out of curiosity to see how prices for treks compared with other companies. I met Bhola. He never pushed anything on me, just gave me the prices and answered all of the questions I had patienly. The prices were much lower than other companies so I was a bit skeptical. I decided to give it a go. I met my guide Baikuntha, and we had an amazing 10 day trek through Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake. Baikuntha was a true professional and a very kind human being. I'm very grateful to Bhola and his son Bigyan who I dealt with to organise this trek. They are a family run business. Everything is smooth, efficient and personal. Now I will go on two more treks through them and i will pair up with Baikuntha again. I highly recommend Rainbow Mountain Treks, and I'm delighted to have stumbled upon them.

The journey

Trip information

The details, practical guidance, and local knowledge you need to prepare for your journey with us.

Few journeys capture the full spirit of the Himalaya like the Annapurna Circuit Trek (Shorter Version) — a trail that circles the colossal Annapurna Massif through every climate zone and culture Nepal has to offer. From lush subtropical valleys to windswept high passes, from Buddhist prayer wheels to Hindu shrines, this route is a living tapestry of landscapes, people, and pilgrimage.

Opened to trekkers in the late 1970s, the Annapurna Circuit quickly earned its reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful and diverse trekking routes. Over two weeks, the trail leads you from the fertile Marsyangdi Valley to the arid plateaus beyond the Himalaya, culminating in the exhilarating crossing of Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) — a moment every trekker remembers for life.

At RM Treks, we’ve guided countless travelers around Annapurna since our founding. We know every shortcut, viewpoint, and teahouse — not just from maps, but from experience born of living and working in these valleys. Our Classic Annapurna Circuit Trek combines that local insight with responsible travel values and carefully designed acclimatization days, ensuring both safety and immersion.

Whether you’re drawn by photography, culture, or the challenge of high-altitude trekking, this route delivers the full Himalayan experience — authentic, transformative, and deeply rewarding.

This trek is ideal for active travelers, photographers, and cultural explorers seeking a rich and varied Himalayan adventure. You’ll enjoy a balance of physical challenge, natural diversity, and deep cultural encounters. This compressed version of the Classic Annapurna Circuit is perfect for trekkers seeking the Annapurna Circuit’s highlights within two weeks.

Perfect for you if you:

  • Want a classic high-altitude trek with cultural immersion.
  • Enjoy long days outdoors (5–7 hours walking).
  • Appreciate authentic teahouse hospitality and mountain life.
  • Are moderately fit and ready for a 5,000 m pass.

Not ideal if you:

  • Prefer luxury-only travel or short walking days.
  • Have difficulty with high altitude (Thorong La is 5,416 m).
  • Seek vehicle-supported or lodge-style comfort throughout.
  • 🧭Local Expertise: Guided by professional Sherpas who’ve spent a lifetime on these trails.
  • 💯Reliable Operations: Decades of Himalayan logistics experience and Kathmandu base support.
  • 🛡Safety First: Certified guides, 24/7 support, emergency preparedness.
  • 🌍 Responsible Trekking: Sustainable operations, no plastic bottles, community support.
  • 🧳 Tailor-Made Itineraries: Flexible acclimatization and custom extensions.
  • 🤝 Fair Wages & Local Employment: Your trip directly supports mountain families. We treat our staffs fairly, and follow sustainable practices & eco-policies.
  • 💬 Authentic Experience: We connect you to real culture — not crowds.

Kathmandu → Besishahar → Manang → Thorong La Pass → Muktinath → Jomsom → Tatopani → Pokhara → Kathmandu

Since this version is a compressed version of the classic circuit, Jeep transfers are used between Besishahar–Dharapani and Jomsom–Tatopani to save time without missing key highlights.

You’ll begin with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besishahar, following the Marsyangdi River upstream through terraced villages and forested hills. Gradually, the trail climbs toward the alpine valley of Manang, home to Tibetan-Buddhist culture and stunning side trails.

After acclimatizing, you’ll tackle the dramatic ascent to Thorong La Pass, the crown of the trek. On the far side lies Muktinath, where Himalayan Buddhism meets Hindu devotion. From here, you descend through the Kali Gandaki Valley to Tatopani’s hot springs, ending with a peaceful return to Pokhara, and onward to Kathmandu.

The Annapurna Circuit is not only a geological journey — it’s a living museum of cultures.

You’ll meet the Gurung people in the lower valleys, famed for their hospitality and bravery; the Manangi community in the trans-Himalayan north, with their Tibetan roots, monasteries, and trade history; and the Thakali in the Mustang region, known for their distinct architecture, cuisine, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Walking through Manang’s flat-roofed homes, spinning prayer wheels in Braga Monastery, or wandering Marpha’s whitewashed alleys, you’ll feel centuries of tradition come alive. RM Treks’ guides are part of these communities — they interpret local life not as outsiders, but as hosts.
